HAIR LOSS A TOP FEAR IN DOCUMENTARY

We recently watched the documentary LIFE IN A DAY which includes footage shot by every day people from around the globe all within one 24 hour period: July 24, 2010.

The editors asked folks to address a number of questions, one of which was this:

"What do you fear?"

One of the responses that made the cut was a guy showing the top of his head where his hair was beginning to thin. This struck a chord with us, because we see people just like him every single day.

If hair loss is something you fear or are struggling with in any way, please let us hear from you. We at Latham's Hair Clinic in Birmingham, Alabama are here to help. We offer the best services at the most reasonable cost, and we're happy to discuss your individual concerns in a FREE consultation. Call us at 1-800-626-8809.

Robotics for Hair Transplantation?

Earlier this year when our surgeon Dr. Carl B. Shory attended the  INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF HAIR RESTORATION SURGERY 19TH ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC MEETING IN ANCHORAGE, ALASKA, SEPTEMBER 14-18, 2011, he learned that they are trying to use robotics for hair transplantation.

Dr. Shory wasn't impressed -- in part because they weren't able to demonstrate the robotic arm actually doing the job. When I asked him for this thoughts on the success of such a device, he said, "If you put the patient in a coma, it might work." His biggest concern: even if it DID work, how would you possibly keep the patient's head still?

At Latham's Hair Clinic we don't use any sort of anesthesia beyond a local injection in the scalp. Our patients sit upright and watch a movie or converse with the surgical staff while having the the hair transplant procedure. And when they're done, they drive home. Simple!

Since the conference, it has been reported that a doctor in San Franscisco is using robotics for hair transplantation.

The jury is still out.
